Annual Events and Contributions
Holiday Arts Festival
We work with the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center's staff to help foster a sense of community spirit over the holidays and provide a kick-off event to showcase our silent auction items. The BJWC provides arts and crafts for families attending the event, coordinates musical groups from local schools for live entertainment, and volunteers to supervise the various activities throughout the day.
Holiday Wreath Silent Auction
We help decorate the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the holidays and generate club funding by displaying and auctioning off gorgeous donated wreaths and a beautifully decorated Christmas Tree!
Mother Daughter Tea Party
This newer event has become a fun way to have the mothers and daughters of our club dress up, learn some tea party etiquette, take part in planned activities, and enjoy tea and sandwiches.
Easter Egg Hunt
This is a community-wide event that we coordinate and run with the Brookfield Parks and Recreation Department. It is held the Saturday prior to the week of Easter at Mitchell Park in Brookfield. As the BJWC, we coordinate the concessions, treat bags, egg hunt, and a special celebrity Easter visitor for the little ones to take pictures with! This is a free event for the city.
Safety Town Program
We plan and host the city-wide safety town program at Burleigh Elementary School each summer. This program teaches incoming Kindergarteners about safety around their town in a fun, interactive way.
Juniors Care For Kids
The committee for this program connects with local school personnel to identify and fulfill specific needs of students that are not met with other, more traditional, organizations.
Teacher Appreciation Baskets
During National Education Week, we take time to recognize and thank our city's public and private school teachers. We purchase, coordinate, and distribute baskets containing snacks for the teachers to enjoy during conference week.
Elmbrook Student Art Show
2011 will mark the 45th Annual Elmbrook Student Art Show. The show is made up of selected pieces of various art from students of Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High Schools. The Pieces are displayed at the Sharon Lynn Wilson Center in April and May. We, as a club, provide ribbons and awards for the student winners. We also provide the refreshments for the award evening.
Elmbrook Arbor Day Festival
The BJWC speaks at this city event held at a local elementary school. We reinforce a theme of community stewardship and how we are stewards of our natural resources. The BJWC provides seedlings to the children present at the event and a tree to be planted at a location selected by the Parks and Rec. Department.
Elmbrook Education Foundation Scholarship
The BJWC donates a $1500 scholarship each year for a high school student selected, with our guidelines, by the Elmbrook Education Foundation board.
Survive Alive House
We help the Brookfield Fire Department maintain the Survive Alive House, which provides area children lessons on fire safety.
Special Philanthropic Projects
We are open to community needs and try to help where we are able.
