Special Philanthropic projects
The BJWC raises money to fund special projects as needed. Some past projects include but
are not limited to:

Survive Alive House (early 1990's): The Survive Alive House was built as a permanent
structure at the Brookfield Fire Department with funds raised by the BJWC. It simulates a
actual fire experience to help teach children about fire safety.

Sharon Lynne Wilson Center of the Arts (2002): The BJWC raised funds as the sponsor of
the new art terrace at this community center.

Elmbrook Nature Center (2003): Funds raised by the BJWC were used to purchase fish
tanks and support additional nature center programs provided to Brookfield students and
members of the community at large.

Waukesha County Birth to 3 Program (2003): This is an early intervention program for
infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities. The goal of the program is
to enhance the abilities of the child and family to fully participate in the community.

Safe Place for Newborns (2003): This is the only organization dedicated to raising
awareness of Wisconsin's law that aims to save newborns from abandonment. The
organization was founded in 2001 and has successful in placing babies in loving homes.

The Waukesha Women's Center (2003): This center provides free programs and services
including emergency shelter for abused women and their children, transitional living, group
and individual counseling, respite and onsite childcare, child abuse prevention
programming, employment counseling, Hisypanic outreach, and a 24-hour crises line.

Fairview South (2004): Fairview South school services special education needs for students
between the ages of 11 and 21 years old with moderate to severe cognitive, emotional and
physical disabilities. It supports children from Brookfield as well as neighboring
communities. In 2003-2004, the BJWC published a cookbook to raise funds specifically
earmarked to sponsor programs and purchase supplies for Fairview South.

Juniors Cares for Kids (2005): The club sponsored it’s first Chili Roundup featuring a chili
cookoff, kids contests, face painting and more! Proceeds were used to provide the seed
money for the newly formed Juniors Cares for Kids program which assists children with
special needs within Waukesha County. The City of Brookfield has since offered to partner
with the Brookfield Junior Woman’s Club to support this community-wide event on an annual
basis.

Survive Alive Anniversary (2006) The BJWC raised the money to build the Survive Alive
House. 2006 marked it's 10th anniversary. The BJWC worked with the Fire Department
along with business and resident volunteers to update the facility with new painting,
wallpaper and supplies and held an Anniversary celebration including community tours and
cake in conjunction with National Night our in August.

The BJWC sponsors/supports larger projects such as these as part of their grant review and
award program. If you know of a special need in the community, please contact the BJWC's
Community Relations Director for additional information about how the BJWC can help with
special community projects.
